Are you struggling with anxiety, worry, or stress that feels difficult to manage? Do you experience significant discomfort in social or performance settings or have fears or panic attacks that restrict your behavior and your ability to live your life comfortably and freely?
Anxiety and worry in mild forms are normal and expected and even serve a biological and useful function. Anxiety is our body’s natural response to stress and danger, alerting us to threatening situations and preparing the body to react to them. Anxiety can be useful when it motivates us to escape danger, prepare for difficult situations, or to attend to aspects of our lives that are important to us. In more extreme forms, however, anxiety can significantly interfere with daily functioning, and detract from one’s quality of life.
Common symptoms of anxiety include:
- Muscle tension, irritability, restlessness, and worry
- Difficulty relaxing
- Poor memory, focus, and concentration
- Feeling a loss of control
- A sense of dread or impending doom
- Avoidance of people, places, situations, or objects
- Obsessions and/or compulsions
- Rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, trembling, dizziness, chest pains, and/or sweating
- Panic attacks
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Physical aches and pains
Although anxiety can be quite uncomfortable, it does not have to take over your life. Anxiety is very common and treatable and there are various therapy methods that can bring significant relief, including CBT and mindfulness-based techniques. I will work with you to develop an in-depth understanding of your anxiety and its particular manifestations, and will empower you with coping mechanisms and problem-solving skills to reduce your anxiety, worry, and stress.
