“Between stimulus and response there is a space.
In that space is our power to choose a response.
In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
-Viktor Frankl

Compassionate & Practical Psychotherapy For Adults

Welcome!

Are you dissatisfied with one or more important aspects of your life, such as your relationships, job, or work-life balance? Do you struggle with perfectionistic or self-critical tendencies that cause you to feel anxious and depressed or contribute to low self-esteem? Does it feel like you’re a passenger in your own life, reacting more than deciding, and repeating behaviors and patterns of thinking that do not serve you? Perhaps you worry that you’ve become too dependent on substances to cope with stress, work and family pressures, or difficult emotions. You believe there has to be a better way of living, but don’t know how to begin to make a change—or even if you want to.

If you can relate to any of the above, you are in the right place.

Psychotherapy offers a unique opportunity to slow down, identify barriers to feeling and functioning as we desire, and clarify our values and goals. By increasing awareness of our ingrained patterns and feelings—and by learning new ways of thinking and behaving—we develop the ability to pause, step out of “automatic pilot” mode, and instead approach life with clearer intention and greater effectiveness.

I invite you to contact me to discuss how I can help you forge a new path towards meaningful change.

About Alison Zimner, Psy.D.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with significant experience providing psychotherapy to adults with a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, substance use/addiction, relationship problems, and physical health challenges. Whether you tend to worry excessively, have difficulty maintaining healthy habits and routines, need help navigating major life changes, or feel that your life lacks the sense of meaning or purpose you hoped it would, I can help you better understand the sources of your distress and develop a plan for feeling better and more empowered.

My approach to therapy is integrative and collaborative, incorporating cognitive-behavioral (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions to best meet the unique needs of my clients. I believe strongly in the power of therapy to not only relieve symptoms, but also to help people feel more engaged with and excited about their lives.
